A photograph is not a picture /

A photograph is not a picture!

The words photograph and picture are obviously and incontestably two different words, and at the same time, these words provide two different terms, which represent two totally different objects or two different types of artistic media.

It is crucial to understand and remember that the photograph is created by photographing (recording), and the picture is created by drawing or painting. The tool for recording a photograph is the camera, but the most common tools for drawing or painting the picture are pencils, brushes, and spatulas.

If drawing or painting is applied on a photograph by any tool (physically or by software) then it ceases to be a photograph, and thus, the emerging work becomes a picture. In this case, a photograph is just a support for drawing or painting (like any other support such as paper, canvas, and plastic). Applying the text on the photograph is an exception.

If the photograph is made by combining with other artistic media, then this is а photo-collage.

If the photograph is made by cutting and joining a number of other photographs, then this is a photomontage or a composite photograph.

In particular, it is important to draw attention to people who are studying or have completed their studies at the Department of Photography, that Department is not the Department of Pictures.
